Northwest Nuggets - Did You Know? π‘
Des Plaines has a major claim to fast food history. In 1955, Ray Kroc opened the very first franchised McDonaldβs restaurant at 400 N. Lee Street, helping turn the golden arches into a national & eventually global icon.
While McDonaldβs started with the McDonald brothers in California, the Des Plaines location became the launchpad for the franchise model that changed how America eats. In many ways, it helped make the Northwest Suburbs part of the birthplace of modern fast food.
If you havenβt watched βThe Founderβ starring Michael Keaton, definitely recommend it, great movie!
Seasonal Tip: Watch Out for Ticks β οΈπͺ²
As more of us head outside for walks, yard work, parks and summer events, it is a good time to stay tick aware. A recent Illinois report found tick activity across the state, including parts of the Chicago area, so a few simple steps can go a long way.
Quick tick safety tips:
β’ Use insect repellent before spending time in grassy or wooded areas
β’ Stay near the center of trails when walking or hiking
β’ Wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe shoes when possible
β’ Check yourself, kids and pets after being outside
β’ Shower soon after outdoor activities to help spot and remove ticks
β’ If you find a tick, remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers
A quick check after time outdoors can help keep your summer fun, safe and bite-free.

If approved, the project could be completed by late 2029, bringing a major investment in advanced healthcare closer to home for Northwest Suburban residents.
